Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Do spoons work for perch?

Few lures are as effective for jumbo perch as spoons, as they pack weight, flash and water displacement into a presentation. ... Spoons can shine whenever you need to eliminate water or are in a situation where the battle is finding fish, knowing that if you can hunt these down that you will catch them.

2. What is a spoon in fishing?

Fishing spoons have a simple design, an oblong shape, concave on one side that catches water producing a wobble and light reflection flash imitating a fleeing or crippled bait fish. Spoons work best for larger fish species such as northern pike, largemouth bass, muskies, walleye, salmon and trout.

3. Can you cast a jigging spoon?

What's important, emphasizes Stevenson, is to realize both types of spoons, especially the jigging spoon, can be cast and retrieved horizontally as well as jigged vertically, and that both jigging and flutter spoons will catch bass throughout the year — not just during the winter months.
