Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What rod should you use for perch?

Perch fishing requires a lightweight rod. Rod strength depends on the size of the lures you will be casting. - “UL” (Ultra-light) rods: for casting small lures between 0.5g and 5g. They are particularly suitable for perch using small lures and soft lures with weighted jig heads between 1g and 5g.

2. What do I need for perch fishing?

A 6lb test line and lightweight rod should be all you need. You also only need small hooks, as these are not huge fish. If your hook is too big, the perch will simply nibble around the hook and eat the bait. You can also try using a spinner, which will attract the perch, especially on a sunny day.

3. How do you handle perch?

Simply place your hand near the head of the perch with your palm just above the dorsal fin. Then slide your hand down and grasp the perch gently but firmly. These actions will fold the fin down. Do not use a cloth to hold any fish because it will remove the protective 'slime' that covers it.
