Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What collar is best for a Chihuahua?

A lightweight collar is best for a small dog. You may want to get a breakaway collar if your pup wears their collar all the time and you are worried about your dog getting caught on something. You can often find this type of collar in the cat section of a pet store.

2. Do vets recommend choke collars for dogs?

They're inhumane. Despite what your trainer or pet store employee may say, driving metal prongs into your dog's neck hurts. That's exactly why they so expediently stop a dog from straining at the leash, for example. Although eliciting pain may provide a quick fix, the effects are often short-lived.

3. Are collars good for chihuahuas?

Another item of concern for dogs as tiny as Chihuahuas is the collar, since even lightweight ones can distress your Chi's fur, skin, and even windpipe. Still, collars can have a benefit when chosen carefully and not worn 24/7 or in dangerous situations (like while in a crate).

4. Can choke collars hurt dogs?

Another study reveals that when force is applied to the neck via a leash and a choke collar, pressure in the eyes is significantly increased. This type of pressure can cause serious injury to dogs already suffering thin corneas, glaucoma, or eye injuries.
