Dog control choke collars are a type of collar that is designed to help owners control their dogs during walks or training sessions. These collars are made with a chain or nylon material that tightens around the dog's neck when pulled, which can help to discourage pulling or disobedience. While some people may find the use of these collars controversial, they can be a useful tool when used correctly and under the advice of a professional trainer or veterinarian. It is important to note that these collars should only be used for training purposes and not as a permanent solution for controlling a dog's behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Are dog choke collars cruel?

Myth: A prong collar isn't inhumane if it fits right. Fact: Sadly, this is a false statement that's been perpetuated by aversive trainers. Even properly fitted prong collars dig into the sensitive skin around the neck, risking severe damage to the thyroid, esophagus, and trachea.

2. Do dog trainers recommend choke collars?

The choke collar is, in fact, one of the most critiqued training collars used to train dogs. The truth of the matter is that this is not a collar to use if you are an inexperienced dog owner. The trouble when using this collar is that even when fitted correctly the collar can damage your dog's neck and cause choking.

3. Do choke chains stop dogs pulling?

The average pet owner isn't using a choke chain to prevent escape, though. Most seem to be using it as a bandaid for pulling on leash. The choke chain is simultaneously the least effective and most damaging way to try to stop dogs from pulling on walks.

4. Are dog chokers illegal?

Pinch collars are not illegal unfortunately and although those who sell them state that they are 'quite gentle training tools', we believe the opposite to be true and we want to see them banned.
