Much loved (and hated!), thorny, fruiting shrub producing an abundance of delicious Blackberries from May to September. Graceful conifer, native to North America and now widely grown throughout Europe for its high quality timber and for Christmas trees. A distinctive feature of the Douglas Fir are its unusual, downward hanging cones, a rarity among conifers. The olive tree has been cultivated since antiquity and has merit not only as a fruiting tree, but also as an excellent Bonsai subject. Has dinstinctive, glaucous, grey-green leathery leaves and small, fragrant, white flowers in summer, followed by olives. Hardy in mild parts of the country and best grown against a sheltered south or west-facing wall. In cold areas, best moved to a frost-free greenhouse, porch or conservatory for winter.

Pennisetum are one of the most popular ornamental grasses as they are easy to grow and maintain and have a long season of interest. The Dwarf Purple Fountain Grass grows to only 60cm forming a neat clump of narrow, arching, glossy green foliage which turns the most beautiful shades of yellow, amber and bronze in late autumn. In late summer, smokey, purple black plumes appear above the foliage which waft gracefully in the breeze and last well into winter.
