Mixed Shallot Sets - 12 Pack Bulb Size 7/15 - Grow Your Own Shallots - for Cooking, Salads, Garnish & Casseroles - Ready to Plant Now - by Jamieson Brothers

GET YOUR SHALLOTS GET OFF TO THE BEST START: Remember to rotate your crops to help prevent common problems such as stem eelworm and white rot. Orange pustules on the leaves indicate rust, but this isn't a serious problem for shallots (it affects leeks and garlic more), and won't affect the shallots themselves.
WHERE TO PLANT YOUR SHALLOT SETS: Make sure that you plant shallot sets in soil that drains well and doesn't get waterlogged. Raised beds are perfect for growing your shallots, because of the improved drainage that they offer.
HOW TO PLANT SHALLOT SETS: Loosen the soil where you are going to plant the shallots, so that water can drain away. If the soil is heavy, mix horticultural grit or well-rotted compost into the soil before planting, to improve drainage, then plant the shallot sets 10cm apart in rows spaced 20-30cm apart. Plant shallot sets so that the tips are just proud of the soil surface. Snip off the wispy tail at the top of the shallot sets.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PLANTED SHALLOTS: After the shallot sets have been planted they can be left to their own devices, with little watering only needed if the soil is bone dry in the summer. Autumn-planted shallot sets will need more watering in the following spring when the soil may dry out quicker. If weeds appear in between the shallots sets, remove them by hand. Trying to remove the weeds with a hoe or trowel will risk uprooting or cutting the shallots by mistake.
GROW YOUR OWN SHALLOTS: Shallots are a great versatile vegetable, they can be used for pickling, garnish, soups, stews and casseroles, and growing your own shallots means you'll always have them to hand. They are easy to grow from small young bulbs called sets. Although seed is available, sets are the easiest and quickest way to grow them. They can be planting in early autumn or, more usually, in spring, for harvesting through summer and into autumn.
ESTABLISHED IN SCOTLAND 1895: Jamieson Brothers were established in 1895 where we began selling our potatoes on a horse and cart. Nowadays we offer a range of gardening products for your every need, whether you're a manufacturer growing vegetables at scale, growing vegetables at the allotment or garden for personal use, landscaping outdoor spaces or are a budding gardening hobbyist.

It's also great for creating a decorative finish on pots, containers, rockeries, ponds, aquariums and alpine plantings. It is graded very fine 1-6mm grit. Jamieson Brothers Dry Sawdust - Large 20kg Compressed Bale of Saw Dust - Bulk Bag For Large Animals - Absorbs Moisture & Reduces Odour - Durable & Long Lasting - Extra Fine Dry Sawdust

GREAT AS ANIMAL BEDDING: Bedding for larger domestic pets needs to be soft, dry and warm so they feel comfortable. Dry sawdust is an excellent substrate as it allows digging which is a natural response in some animals. This absorbent sawdust can be layered up so the animals can burrow through. Use this sawdust for cubicle bedding, equine bedding, poultry bedding and more.
KEEP ANIMAL AREAS SMELLING FRESH: Lay this on the bottom of animal beds or living spaces. Jamieson Brothers sawdust absorbs surrounding moisture and any accompanying odours. The sawdust is a natural by-product of the timber industry and contains no additives. Using fine sawdust saves you time by taking away bacteria that thrives in moisture as it absorbs as well as reducing the odour it can leave. Pathogen, weed seed and pest free.
USE TO MAKE SAWDUST MULCH: Add to the base of garden plants. Sawdust mulch helps retain moisture in plants, keeps roots nice and cool and can also prevent weeds. Mix sawdust with compost or grass clippings to produce a mulch. This is particularly effective for acid-loving plants so you can help them grow. To ensure best results, add a nitrogen component in the soil to counteract nitrogen deficiency when doing so.
ESTABLISHED IN SCOTLAND 1895: Jamieson Brothers were established in 1895 where we began selling our potatoes on a horse and cart. Nowadays we offer a range of grow bags for your every need, whether you're a manufacturer growing vegetables at scale, looking after cattle or farmyard animals, growing vegetables at the allotment or garden for personal use, landscaping outdoor spaces or are a budding gardening hobbyist.
20KG EXTRA FINE SAWDUST: Produced from a variety of coniferous softwood with minimal hardwood content, this is ideal for farms or large enterprises that routinely go through a lot of sawdust. We recommend wearing a mask when initially unpacking this sawdust from the packaging, as the dust can get in the air quickly from the compressed bale while opening. Warning: may be harmful upon inhaling for smaller animals (not suitable for hamsters and gerbils)
