2015 Decanter World Wine Awards Silver Trophy Winner
Sandeman Porto Late Bottled Vintage 2015 was made in accordance with Porto's traditionalmethod. Grapes were hand-picked at an ideal maturation stage and pressed. Fermentation tookplace in stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures and was arrested at the optimum pointby the addition of grape alcohol. The resulting wine is naturally sweet and rich, deeply red andfull-bodied, with great aromatic concentration.
After the harvest the wine remained in the Douro and was racked for the first time over the winter.During racking the necessary final corrections in alcohol strength and acidity were carried out. Itwas taken to V.N.Gaia the following Spring and entered the traditional Porto Wine maturationprocess, in 640-litre vats, characteristic of the Sandeman style. During this period the wine wassubjected to numerous rackings, analyses and tastings that made it possible to monitor itsageing, as well as to intervene with blendings and corrections whenever necessary. The final blendwas arrived at after rigourous wine selection.

Sandeman Ruby Porto Wine, 75 cl (Case of 3)

Sandeman Porto is produced by the traditional Porto Wine method. The handpicked grapes undergo stalk-removal and crushing before fermentation, under controlledtemperature, with skin maceration so as to extract the best components. The addition of winealcohol at the ideal moment sets the balance between the wine's body and bouquet. This momentis chosen by the winemaker following strict control of fermentation temperatures and densities, the later depending on the vine variety, maturation stage and the final sweetness required.
Intense ruby red colour, brilliant and clean. Rich red fruit aromas with a touch of age create anelegant reflection of powerful flavours, the fruit and fire characteristic of young classic Portobalanced with the finesse of age.
After the harvest, the wines remain in the Douro until the following Spring, when they are taken toV.N.Gaia and enter Sandeman's centuries-old lodges for ageing in oak wood casks, as required byPorto Wine traditional ageing system. Throughout the years the wines are carefully tasted andanalysed by the oenology team who also makes all necessary corrections and prepares the finalblend so as to keep Sandeman Porto style and character. The wines selectedare usually between 3 and 5 years of age, providing for a mature and intense wine with an averageage of 4 years. The final blend is filtered and cold-stabilised prior to bottling.
