Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Do sippy cups have BPA?

While almost all sippy cups are BPA free, new research suggests that even non-BPA plastics are leaching dangerous chemicals into our food and drink. In fact, a study done by Environmental Health Perspectives found that plastic products like sippy cups release a chemical that mimics estrogen.

2. Why toddlers should not use sippy cups?

Around 12 months your child's swallow begins to mature and the continued used of a bottle or introduction of a hard-spouted sippy cup can interfere with progression from that infant suckle to a more mature swallow pattern. This is why we recommend ditching the bottle by 12 months of age and moving to a straw cup!

3. What kind of sippy cup should a 2 year old use?

For on-the-go drinking, Wilson suggests using a portable straw cup. “Straw drinking allows the tip of a toddler's tongue to elevate during a swallow and the toddler to use their lips, tongue and jaw more independently.” Good old water bottles can work well too, although these are harder to master at a young age.
