Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What size pump do I need for a pond fountain?

A good rule of thumb is that pumps should be able to pump out about half the pond volume every hour. For example, a pump that moves 500 gallons per hour would be appropriate for a 1,000 gallon pond.

2. Do solar powered pond pumps work?

So long as you get a sufficient amount of sunlight each day, the pump will be able to function autonomously, without even needing to be wired to your mains socket. Solar pumps are also very discreet, quiet in operation, and usually powerful enough to run smaller water features without trouble.

3. What is the difference between a pond pump and a waterfall pump?

Direct Drive Pond Pumps are stronger pumps usually referred to as a Waterfall Pump and best used for taller waterfalls and higher head lift situations. Direct Drive pumps usually take a little more energy since they are more powerful and since they have more parts that can wear down usually have a shorter warranty.

4. How long do solar fountain batteries last?

The lifespan of a battery generally lasts between 12-18 months, but with repeated charge and discharge cycles, the battery capacity may reduce. You can try to boost charge the battery by leaving the panel in the sun for 2-3 sunny days to allow maximum charge.
