Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Are open face helmets legal in the UK?

Are open face motorcycle helmets legal in the UK? Open face helmets offer a little more protection than half helmets, however, the answer is the same. Any open face helmet needs to meet British safety standards in order to be considered legal. Again, SHARP only tests full face and system (flip visor) helmets.

2. Is open face helmet allowed?

So long as your helmet has been designed specifically for motorcycle use, and it has a genuine ICC sticker, then it's perfectly legal for use on public roads.

3. Are open face helmets noisy?

It might sound obvious, but riding with your visor open will create a lot more noise. You'll feel your visor click slightly as it reaches the fully-closed position – this is the point where it is at its quietest. A well-designed helmet should still be fairly quiet with the vents in the open position.
