Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Are motion sensors pet friendly?

Features vary by manufacturer and model, but can include selectable sensitivity for pets up to 40 pounds or those weighing up to 80 pounds and can be set to disregard one large pet, like a full-grown dog or several small pets, like cats. Where you place the motion sensor can also impact its pet-friendliness.

2. Will pets set off ADT motion detector?

Motion Sensors You may worry that a pet will set the sensor off, triggering a false alarm. Newer systems now can ignore anything under 85 pounds, so most pets are off the hook. In fact, with ADT's motion sensors, you can set the sensitivity level to the specific weight of your pet.

3. Do pet friendly PIR sensors work?

Both standard PIRs and pet-friendly PIRs have large detection zones, with the latter having just enough room underneath for most pets to walk around undetected. That doesn't mean an intruder can crawl past a pet-friendly PIR as their bodies will still emit high levels of infrared radiation and get detected.

4. How do I know if my alarm is pet friendly?

In fact, the main control panel of pet-friendly alarm is identical to the main control panel of a standard home alarm. The different and clever part, which makes the system "pet friendly", is the motion sensors supplied with the alarm panel – the pet-friendly PIR.
