Canon EOS Lens Extension Tubes are a set of accessories designed to enhance the macro capabilities of Canon EOS cameras. These tubes are inserted between the camera body and the lens, effectively increasing the distance between the lens and the sensor. This allows for closer focusing distances and greater magnification, making it easier to capture detailed close-up shots of small subjects such as insects, flowers, or jewellery. The tubes come in a set of three with different lengths, allowing for greater flexibility and control over the level of magnification. These extension tubes are a useful addition to any photographer's kit who wants to explore the world of macro photography.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What lens should I use with extension tubes?

Extension tubes can be used with any lens. Short lenses do well with short tubes, but longer lenses require longer tubes for a similar effect. For instance, the 35mm lens is a good match to a 12mm tube, but a 50mm lens will require 25mm tube for similar magnification.

2. Can you use extension tubes with any lens?

You can use extension tubes with any type of lenses: primes or zooms, portraits, or even macro! Extension tubes are an inexpensive way to get the kind of short focusing distances that you get from a dedicated and much more expensive macro lens.

3. What are Canon extension tubes used for?

An extension tube is an accessory that increases the magnification of a lens simply by moving the optics further away from the camera.

4. Can extension tubes damage your camera?

I'd be surprised if even defective extension tubes could "destroy" a camera, though I guess anything is possible. Non-destructive but annoying errors however do seem possible. In other words, the camera failing to work properly when the tubes are attached is one thing; the camera needing repair as a result is another.
