Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What are exterior door knobs called?

Handlesets: Door handlesets come with a handle and key lock to install on the exterior of a door. They also come with a lever or door knob for the other side of the door and a deadbolt.

2. What is a good exterior door knob?

Runner-Up, Best Overall: Kwikset Juno Keyed Entry Door Knob The Kwikset Juno is a top seller, and it's available in multiple finishes including satin nickel, antique or polished brass, and bronze to match your home's existing hardware.

3. Can any door knob be used outside?

Doorknobs and locksets intended for interior use may have no water seal and may use a thinner protective coating. Doorknobs and locks intended for exterior use could easily be used indoors, but interior sets may quickly leak, corrode, or lose their finish if exposed outdoors.

4. Are exterior door knobs universal?

Door knobs are not universal, but there aren't exponentially increasing options for what you need. You need to consider three things: the backset, the hole diameter (called a cross-bore) where the doorknob goes, and whether it's for interior or exterior use.
