Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Is covering a dog crate a good idea?

A crate cover, like a blanket or crate-specific covering, can be beneficial to many dogs and can help reduce anxiety and soothe dogs by limiting visual stimuli, which in turn can prevent excitement and barking.

2. Is there an alternative to a dog crate?

Playpen. Yet another alternative option to the traditional dog crate is a playpen. TPlaypens typically work best if you have lots of space at home, and want to give your pup space to roam while keeping it safe and contained in a specific area.

3. Do dogs prefer wire or plastic crates?

Generally speaking, more substantial dogs do better in wire crates. Wire crates feel bigger than plastic crates. Although small dogs can use a wire crate and large dogs can use plastic, if you have a large-breed puppy, you will want to look into the wire crate options.

4. Is it cruel to cover a dog's crate?

There's a caveat, though: Never, ever cover your dog's crate as punishment. (In fact, your dog should never be put in her crate for punishment...it should be her refuge.) Not only is it ineffective to try and punish your dog by covering her crate, it's also a little cruel.
