This EPIRB is pre-programmed for registration with the UK country code and must be registered to a vessel with a UK MMSI number. Whilst it will function anywhere around the world, the initial point of contact during an emergency situation would be the UK Search and Rescue authorities with whom the PLB would be registered.

The Ocean Signal SafeSea EPIRB1 Pro works in the 406 MHz satellite band. This band encompasses the international emergency frequencies that are constantly received by Cospas-Sarsat, the international search and rescue satellite operator that ensures a quick response to a signal, no matter where in the world it is.

This EPIRB should only be used in situations of grave and imminent danger to life. False alerts endanger lives and cause expensive disruption to Search and Rescue services. Deliberate misuse of the device could result in a penalty.
