Always rinse your puff thoroughly after use, squeeze out excess water and hang to dry in a dry place (i.e. not somewhere it can get wet again before you next use it). Bacterial breeds in dampness!

Back loofahs that have a strap are very handy to wash and to reach areas behind you when you shower or bath. They work by having two loops at each end of the loofah to hold with your hands. You can then locate the back loofah to around your back and scrub by pushing and pulling the loops with your hands at the same time manoeuvring the back loofah up and down your back. By doing this you can exfoliate and wash your back very effectively.
