Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. How do you measure a tap spline?

Tip: The easiest way to count the number of teeth on a spline is to place a pencil mark in one of the grooves, then place your fingernail in that groove and rotate the shaft. Count how many 'clicks' there are until you return to your pencil mark.

2. What's the inside of a tap called?

Tap Body – This is the main body/housing of the tap. Often they are brass or steel with a plating such as chrome or brushed nickel. This is where the cartridge mixing chamber is, where the inputs are connected and also where the spout and nozzle are.

3. Are all tap cartridges the same?

Once you have removed the ceramic tap cartridge you will need to identify the thread size. In the UK 95% of taps are either BSP 1/2" (Basin size) or 3/4" (Bath size). The BSP "British Pipe Standard " doesn't refer to any physical dimension, which is very confusing and is why we display all the dimensions in mm.
