Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What are felling wedges used for?

Felling wedge Felling wedges are best for medium to large trees as they provide a lot of lifting force. They are inserted before the felling cut is complete, and are knocked in with an axe or an impact breaking bar. Occasionally, several wedges are needed.

2. How many felling wedges do you need?

For smaller trees, one might be sufficient, but for bigger trees you may need three or four. The more wedges you use, the greater the leverage to tip the tree over.

3. Is a chainsaw a wedge or a lever?

Screws are used to hold the chainsaw together like glue. They attach the parts to each other to build the chainsaw as a whole. As it cuts, the chainsaw is a wedge because it wedges, (hence the name), between the wood and separates it. This is how it cuts the wood.

4. What is a bucking wedge?

Bucking Wedges - Also known as a summer wedge, bucking wedges are smooth on both sides to allow them to be easily removed from a kerf after use.
