Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Is it cruel for a dog to wear a muzzle?

Can it be cruel to have a dog wear a muzzle? Yes, it can be cruel if the wrong muzzle is used—if it does not allow the dog to pant, for example. It can be cruel if it does not fit properly, if the dog isn't acclimated to wearing it, or if a muzzle is used without addressing the underlying issues that require its use.

2. Why dogs should not wear muzzles?

A muzzle is only meant to be used for short periods of time, and only when your dog is supervised. Behavioral problems like barking and chewing are, by their nature, ongoing issues, so a muzzle, a tool meant for temporary and short-term use, is not a solution.

3. Which muzzle is best for dogs?

Plastic basket muzzle: This is the best all-around muzzle for protection, fit and training. It allows the dog to breathe and pant easily and drink water, so it can be worn for extended periods. And a dog wearing a basket muzzle can take treats for rewards during training.

4. Is a muzzle Good for an aggressive dog?

Don't: Use a muzzle to "fix" a fear or aggression problem. Using the muzzle this way could make the aggression worse. Teaching your dog to be comfortable around what he is upset about by using positive training while using a muzzle as a safety measure is the most effective way to help your dog.
