Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is a SPG gauge?
Your SPG displays how much air remains in your tank so that you can end your dive well before you get too low. An SPG can either be a mechanical gauge connected by a hose that reads the pressure in bar (metric) or psi (imperial, pounds per square inch) in your tank, or it may be built into your dive computer.
2. What is Gauge mode on a dive computer?
Gauge — In gauge mode, a computer acts as a bottom timer. It will display your time and depth but will not give you a bottom time or no-decompression limit. Freediving — Also called 'Free,' this mode is designed for no-tank, breath-hold diving.
3. At what depth of diving Do you need to decompress?
Decompression diving, or deco diving, means intentionally going beyond No Decompression Limits (NDLs) to achieve a longer bottom time at a given depth. This could mean spending an hour at 100 feet (30 m) or 20 minutes at 164 feet (50 m), depending on your dive's objectives.
4. How is diving depth measured?
The Boyle-Mariotte depth gauge consists of a transparent circular curved tube open at one end. It has no moving parts. While diving, water goes into the tube and compresses an air bubble inside proportionally to the depth. The edge of the bubble indicates the depth on a scale.
