1. How do I Remineralize my aquarium water?

Well, it's all thanks to an easy recipe. All you need is 5 milliliters (1 cap full) of water conditioner and 1 teaspoon baking soda mixed together with ¼ teaspoon acid buffer for every 50 gallons of RO water. Rinsing and washing out the tank will help you get a good start on remineralization.

2. Are silicates harmful to fish?

Silicate is non-toxic to fish and invertebrates, but is ideally kept below 1 mg/L to minimize diatomaceous algae. In freshwater, silicate is not critical. Usually, freshwater silicate concentrations will range in the area of 4–20 mg/L. MultiTest™ Silicate measures silicates to less than 0.5 mg/L in marine or freshwater.

3. Can you test for silicates in water?

1.2 This test method is a colorimetric method that determines molybdate-reactive silica. It is applicable to most waters, but some waters may require filtration and dilution to remove interferences from color and turbidity. This test method is useful for concentrations as low as 20 μg/L.
